Helping Patients Live Full & Rewarding Lives

Patients can face difficult challenges when recovering from the debilitating consequences of severe traumas, illnesses, or disorders. When patients come to our Acute Rehab Program, they meet those challenges in a caring, comprehensive and intensive program designed to increase independence and restore self-determination.

Our acute rehabilitation program is a highly structured, intensive interdisciplinary program intended for patients with significant functional impairments. Our approach provides patients with a supportive, structured and coordinated rehab program designed to improve the ability to perform daily living tasks.

All patients in our Herrick Campus 39-bed unit, receive an average of three or more hours of therapy six-to-seven days per week, depending on their individual goals.

The Keys to Rehabilitation Success
We assign each patient a rehabilitation care team that works to design an individualized treatment program and establish goals based on the patient’s current condition and needs. The team monitors the patient’s progress and adjusts the treatment program to reach these rehabilitation goals.

The patient and family are critical members of the rehabilitation team. As such, we believe that patient and family education and training are key to rehabilitation success. So we provide the patient and family (or caregiver) with information about the diagnosis, and involve them in developing the plan for improvement and the transition to home. Family conferences provide an opportunity to review the medical history, evaluation results, short- and long-term goals, and progress.

The rehabilitation plan of care is coordinated and carried out 24 hours a day by therapists, nurses, social workers, and physicians. Our dedicated staff of highly skilled professionals specialize in this intense level of rehabilitation.

Quality and Outcome Measures
We measure the outcomes and successes of our patients’ recovery so that we may continuously improve our services. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredit our program for Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Brain Injury Rehabilitation. In addition, the program has one of the nation’s highest proportions of Certified Rehab Registered Nurses (CRRNs).

Program Highlights Include:

  • Professional, highly skilled and experienced staff including occupational, physical, speech, and recreational therapists, neuropsychologists, social workers, registered dieticians, and respiratory therapists.
  • Registered nursing staff with a specialty certification in rehabilitation.
  • Three staff physiatrists (physicians with a specialty in rehabilitation
    medicine) making daily patient visits.
  • Comprehensive Program Evaluation System demonstrating
    excellent outcomes.
  • Family/Patient Education Classes/Support Groups.
  • Therapeutic Aquatics and Community Reintegration Program.
  • Pet Assisted Therapy.
